Last Family Home Evening for Two Years

Golden Corral was the scene for the last big family dinner before Landon leaves on Wednesday.  We were all seated at one long table in a private room.

Afterwards it was a tour of Jason and Karie's house and then over to Ben and Kimberly's for games.

 

Mission Farewell

On January 13, Landon was assigned to speak in the Oak Woods Ward at 9:00am.  This was to be his talk prior to entering the MTC.  He was assigned to speak on the scripture he chose to be on his Missionary Plaque, which was Moroni 10:3-5.  Landon shared why he was a member of this Church and the blessings he has seen from following some of the commandments. 1) Service -it helps us to forget our own problems and it makes you feel happy.  2) Tithing -this shows that you trust God and then he can bless you.  3) Word of Wisdom -this was ahead of its time and it is truly revelation from God.  4) Law of Chastity - keeps families together.  Pornography literally changes your mind so you can't think.  5) Church attendance -offers a place of refuse.  Those that go to church are proven to be happier.  6) Temple Attendance -It is also a place of refuse and teaches us things in an eternal perspective.  7) The church and Jesus Christ gives us hope.  We can be with our families forever.   Moroni shows us that reading, pondering and praying help us know truth.  By doing this, I know this Church is true.  A mission was always in my plans. But things started getting in the way.  1) School -I could be further ahead, but then I though it will always be there whether I do it now or later and I knew I would never regret serving a mission. 2) Girl I'm fond of,  I would miss her, but then I thought that my future wife deserves a returned missionary and the man I will become.  She deserves a righteous priesthood holder.  We all deserve to be happy and this is what I want to show people. I prayed and it feels right, I know I need to serve a mission. Landon then finished with his strong, humble testimony.

After Sacrament Meeting all the friends and family gathered at the Foust House for food.

The entire day was spent visiting with those he loved. It was a great day!

Last Alone Visit to Grandparents

On January 6, Landon, his mom and dad spent time visiting his grandparents.  Landon has been close to them as he spent time caring for their yards which gave him special time to visit alone. Our first stop was Grandma Foust's where Landon is her youngest grandchild.

We then ventured down to Legacy House, where Grandpa Noble is currently living in an assisted living apartment. Grandpa had just been home teaching, which he has always been faithful at.

Finally off to Grandma Noble's.  She still lives at the same home they have lived at for 56 years.

Great Friends Serving Together

On December 30, 2012 Landon and his friends began their trek of attending many mission farewells.  Unfortunately, Landon will be the first to report to the MTC so he will only hear about the others through mail.

Called to serve in Santiago, Chile- Parker Shaw; Lansing, Michigan- Landon Foust; Tijuana, Mexico- Austen George; Detroit, Michigan- Daniel Carter; Mexico City, Mexico- Cody Rutter; Singapore- Aaron Hirschi; Scotland and Ireland- Rusty Facer; Wellington, New Zealand- Brady James; London, England- Hunter Jensen; Bogota, Colombia- Gage Thomas; Fukuoka, Japan- Jeremy Benson; Birmingham, Alabama- Cameron Scott; and Copenhagen, Denmark- Megan Hadley! And there's still more to come! 

Opening the Call

On October 22, 2012 Landon received his mission call.

Those in the family that could gathered with much anticipation of where he would go.  Many others joined in on Facetime with the available phones.  Where would he go?

Landon Turns 16!!!

It's hard to believe that my baby is really 16. We celebrated the day with the family coming to help him enjoy the fun.

The Noble's, Hammonds, Grandpa & Grandma Noble along with Grandma Foust were all there.

Connor was not sure what all those candles are for.

Landon got his drivers license right after the holiday which was his birthday! It would be scary, but he broke his foot a week later and can't drive for 6 weeks.

Trip to Wind Rivers Wyoming

Over Labor Day Weekend, Dean and Landon went with our Home Teacher, Keith Stratford and some of his kids backpacking up in the Wind Rivers which is East of Jackson Hole Wyoming. Here is a picture of the crew that went (except the picture taker Dean). They left on Friday late afternoon and drove the 5 1/2 hours to get there.

Landon helped Dean with some of the weight. We found out later that he had a large bone spur on the center of the pad of his foot. No wonder he had a hard time walking.

The food is always better at camp! Even when it is dehydrated.
We get to share! They had a great time and are already planning a trip next summer to King's Peak which is the highest peak in Utah. Maybe some of the other boys can come.
